Welcome

My PhotoI'm Doug Dodd. On this site you will find some javascript and java applets I've written along with whatever else might amuse me. Most of what I do is done gratis so you're welcome to anything I've written. Just drop me a line.

What to say about me? I'm 53 years old and I live in beautiful Maryville, Tennessee, just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A hollow (pronounced holler in East Tennessee) is a small valley between mountains. There are plenty of them around here and this site is my personal hollow. I've been married for 28 years and have two wonderful daughters. I have a BS in Chemistry and a PhD in Microbiology. My wife is a physician specializing in Ob/Gyn, allowing me to be Mr. Mom (what a great job!).

After my family, computers are the love of my life. I've been crazy about them ever since we had a CP/M machine in the lab back in Texas. (I had a FORTRAN class back in 1978 but card readers and waiting a day for output were not especially enticing). I wrote programs whenever I could think of something worth writing. When a researcher, I wrote a couple programs for analyzing protein structure (in BASIC) and a program for drawing genetic maps of plasmids and keeping track of plasmid constructs.

Since quitting work, I have taken a number of computer related classes at the local community college. Java was my favorite. Some of the applets on this site were written for that class, others for my own amusement.

What people need most are websites, and that's what keeps me busy at the present. If you have some interesting project that I could help with, let me know.
