I'm
Doug Dodd. On this site you will find
some javascript and java applets I've written along with whatever else might
amuse me. Most of what I do is done gratis so you're welcome to anything
I've written. Just drop me a line.
What to say about me? I'm 54 years old and I live in beautiful Maryville, Tennessee, just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A hollow (pronounced holler in East Tennessee) is a small valley between mountains. There are plenty of them around here and this site is my personal hollow. I've been married for 29 years and have two wonderful daughters. I have a BS in Chemistry and a PhD in Microbiology. My wife is a physician specializing in Ob/Gyn, allowing me a bit of financial freedom.
After my family, science and computers are the loves of my life.
I've been crazy about computers ever since we had a CP/M machine in the lab back in Texas in the early 80's. (I had a FORTRAN class back in 1978 but card readers and waiting a day for output were not especially enticing). I wrote programs whenever I could think of something worth writing. When a researcher, I wrote a couple programs for analyzing protein structure (in BASIC) and a program for drawing genetic maps of plasmids and keeping track of plasmid constructs. I have taken a number of computer related classes at the Pellissippi State Technical Community College (PSTCC). Java was my favorite. Some of the applets on this site were written for a class, others for my own amusement.
I have done a number of websites over the years but currently only keep up a couple. I started teaching Biology Labs at PSTCC in the Fall of 08 which is keeping me pretty busy. I just started (Feb 09) a biology section to this website to help with my teaching and just to link to some cool science stuff.
