Fermentation and Respiration

Introduction

Last week we saw how photosynthesis captured some of the energy of the sun in the form of high-energy bonds in glucose (C6H12O6). This week we'll see how cells break down glucose to produce ATP, commonly called the energy currency of the cell. ATP drives most of the energetically unfavorable reactions (such as making complex molecules) in a cell.
